Description: This specially-priced collection of the hardcover volumes includes scholarly editions of three Dutch romances, two volumes of early French Tristan poems and three further volumes of French Arthurian literature, five of German Romances including Iwein and Lanzelet, three of Italian literature, a volume of Latin Arthurian literature and three volumes of Norse Romances, including a version of Tristan. Arthurian Archives is a major and continuing programme, undertaken in response to the need for editions and translations offering the widest possible base for a study of Arthurian materials. Many of the great masterpieces - from such authors as Chretien de Troyes, Gottfried von Strassburg, and Wolfram von Eschenbach and others - are presented here in fresh original-language editions and facing English translations; but the series also includes lesser-known but equally important works from across Europe, including Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and Italy. It thus aims to provide a wide corpus of Arthurian texts, many available in English translation for the first time, and opening them to further scholarly investigation.
